Comcast has announced a new pricing structure for some of its broadband Internet plans that includes a guarantee that the company will not raise prices for at least five years.
The cornerstone of the five-year price lock guarantee is the company’s “Connect More” plan, which offers average download speeds 400 Megabits per second (Mbps) for $55 per month — a price that includes the cost of a leased gateway and unlimited data. The price-lock guarantee is a promise on Comcast’s end, with customers not cornered into a term limit or contract — subscribers can cancel at any time, the company says.
“We’re addressing two significant consumer pain points – rising costs and transparency – with incredible value and easy-to-understand pricing that is locked in for five years,” Steve Croney, the Chief Operating Officer of Connectivity and Platforms at Comcast, said in a statement. “Our new price guarantee removes complexity, and when our customers also take mobile, they get the nation’s largest converged network, which automatically delivers gig speeds wherever they go.”
While Comcast is promoting its “Connect More” plan as the one that involves a price-lock guarantee, the website Light Reading confirmed the promise extends to at least three other broadband Internet packages, which offer faster download speeds at a higher cost. All told, the Comcast packages that come with price-lock guarantees include:
- Connect More (400 Mbps) – $55 per month
- Fast (600 Mbps) – $70 per month
- 1 Gigabit – $85 per month
- 2 Gigabits – $105 per month
As with the Connect More plan, the other three include a leased gateway and unlimited data. And all four come with a special deal where Comcast subscribers can add one unlimited Xfinity Mobile line free for 12 months.
Comcast is extending the new price-lock guarantee to new broadband Internet subscribers who sign up between now and mid-June, according to marketing materials reviewed by The Desk. The price-lock plans will be available to existing customers who want to switch tiers of service in the coming weeks; existing customers will also have the option to take advantage of the Xfinity Mobile perk.
The price-lock offer comes at a time when Comcast and other land-based broadband service providers have experienced pressure from fixed wireless and satellite Internet platforms. Wireless, 5G-driven products like AT&T Internet Air, Verizon Home Internet and T-Mobile Home Internet have attracted customers away from Xfinity Internet and similar services with low monthly pricing that is inclusive of equipment and without data caps.
In late January, Comcast revealed it lost 131,000 residential Xfinity Internet subscribers during the last three months of 2024, and shed 8,000 business Internet customers during the same period. Comcast ended the year with around 29.4 million residential broadband customers and nearly 2.5 million business Internet clients. The company reports its first quarter (Q1) earnings for 2025 later this month.
