Google is working with the Walt Disney Company to reintegrate its digital marketplaces into the Movies Anywhere platform, according to a customer notice published online in recent weeks.
The notice comes about a month after Google announced it was ending its participation in the Movies Anywhere initiative, which allows customers to buy theatrical films from Disney and other studios on platforms like the Google Play Store and YouTube, and stream them on other services like Apple’s iTunes, Comcast’s X1 platform and Amazon’s Prime Video app.
Google’s decision to end the partnership came during a dispute over the distribution of Disney-owned broadcast channels and cable networks on its YouTube TV service, which started on October 31. Disney and Google reached a new agreement covering the TV channels about two weeks later.
The companies didn’t say when the Google Play Store and YouTube will support the Movies Anywhere platform; a support note published online encouraged film fans to “stay tuned” for more information about the relaunch date.
