Questex, the information provider behind StreamTV Insider and the StreamTV Show, has unveiled the agenda for Alan Wolk’s TVREV Summit that will be held at this year’s conference in June.
The summit will examine what Wolk describes as the collapse of the “monoculture” and the rise of “Feudal Media,” a term the media analysis firm uses to describe audiences that are spread across disconnected content bubbles on different platforms. The sessions will focus on how those shifts are affecting television operating systems, advertising, monetization, content discovery and sports rights.
“The monoculture is gone, and the industry is still trying to figure out what replaces it,” Wolk said in a statement on Wednesday. “Audiences are now spread across thousands of disconnected content bubbles, each with its own culture, creators, and viewing habits. This Summit is about helping the industry understand what that means for TV operating systems, advertisers, content owners, and the future of media itself.”
The TVREV Summit will open with a keynote from Wolk called “The Collapse of the Monoculture and the Rise of Feudal Media,” which will explore how viewers have moved away from shared media experiences and into smaller, more fragmented content ecosystems. The session will also examine what media companies, advertisers and technology firms need to do to reach viewers in that environment.
Other sessions will focus on how the television industry is defining the medium as viewers move between linear channels, streaming apps and connected TV platforms. One fireside conversation, called “TV Is TV,” will feature Guy Edri, the co-Founder and CEO of connected TV platform V (formerly VIDAA), discussing the idea that television remains television regardless of whether viewers watch through traditional linear platforms or streaming services. Edri is also expected to discuss V’s approach to building a TV operating system for content owners, advertisers and device manufacturers.
The agenda also includes a session called “How To Reach A Mass Audience When There’s No Mass Media,” featuring executives from Google, LG Ads, Spectrum Reach and Wurl. That discussion will focus on how advertisers can build reach across streaming, free ad-supported streaming television services, YouTube, social video and linear TV.
Another session, “Why The TV OS Needs An Ad Layer,” will feature Ed Lee, the Vice President of Partnerships for Ventura TV OS at The Trade Desk. The discussion will center on how The Trade Desk’s Ventura operating system is being developed to improve ad delivery, relevance and return on investment for advertisers and content owners.
The summit will also examine new ways for streaming companies and content owners to generate revenue beyond the traditional 30-second commercial. Executives from Stingray, TiVo, Magnite and Merzigo will discuss monetization opportunities tied to streaming apps, connected TV home screens, ambient video, retail media networks and other emerging television experiences.
A separate sports media session will look at how sports rights are shifting toward ad-supported streaming platforms, while younger viewers increasingly consume highlights and clips instead of full games. Speakers from Hub Entertainment Research, Play Anywhere, FloSports and Transmit are scheduled to participate.
“TVREV’s Summit is designed to be thought-provoking, honest, and highly interactive,” Kevin Gray, the founder of StreamTV Show and a vice president at Questex, said in a statement. “The streaming industry is navigating one of the most significant shifts in media history, and these conversations are happening in real time. This Summit is where executives and analysts could challenge assumptions, debate what’s next, and leave with a clearer understanding of where the industry is heading.”
Admission to all TVREV Summit events are included with a conference pass to the StreamTV Show, with the TVREV workshops taking place on Tuesday, June 16. While included with their pass, attendees must RSVP separately for the TVREV workshops.
