Phynd has launched a beta version of its free game-streaming platform on LG smart televisions in the United States, giving users access to a catalog of games without requiring a dedicated console.

The service is available through LG Apps on television sets released in 2021 or later that run webOS 6.0 or newer. Players can use a compatible Bluetooth gamepad or turn a smartphone into a virtual controller.

Phynd (stylized as “PHYND”) is promoting the service as a free, ad-supported alternative to conventional console and cloud gaming platforms. The company said its model is intended to lower the cost and hardware barriers that can prevent households from playing games on television sets.

The launch also expands LG’s interactive entertainment offering as the television manufacturer adds more gaming services to webOS and its LG Gaming Portal.

“With the rapid growth of the gaming category on webOS, we are expanding the ways customers can access and enjoy interactive entertainment on our LG TVs,” Bo Moon, the Vice President of WebOS Platform and New Business at LG, said in a statement on Monday. “By partnering with innovators like PHYND, we’re bringing more free, ad-supported gameplay to the living room, making it easier than ever for users to discover and instantly play games through LG Apps and LG Gaming Portal.”

The initial catalog includes games from independent studios and publishers across several genres. Family and party titles include “Garfield Lasagna Party,” “Smurfs Kart” and “Urban Trial Playground.”

Action and adventure offerings include “Samurai Academy: Paws of Fury,” “Agatha Christie: Death on the Nile” and “Deathbound.” Puzzle, strategy and trivia games include “Melbits World,” “The Lullaby of Life” and “Who Wants to Be A Millionaire?”

Phynd said it plans to add new titles regularly. The platform is designed to give developers and publishers another distribution channel while creating new opportunities for advertising-supported monetization and audience discovery.

“PHYND was built to make gaming as easy and accessible as watching TV,” Phynd’s Founder and CEO André Swanston said on Monday. “Launching on LG Smart TVs brings us one step closer to our vision of turning every television into a gaming platform. Whether someone plays every day or is discovering games for the first time, PHYND makes it easy to jump in and start playing within seconds.”
