LG Electronics and Cineverse have added the Bob Ross Gallery Collection to LG Gallery Plus, giving owners of LG Gallery TVs a new way to display artwork from the late painter and television host, the companies announced on Monday.
The collection brings finished Bob Ross paintings to LG Gallery Plus (stylized as LG Gallery+), the artwork platform available through LG’s WebOS operating system. The service offers access to more than 5,000 pieces of art, including classical works, contemporary pieces and digital-first creations.
The Bob Ross addition marks the first time LG Gallery Plus has featured landscape artwork from the Bob Ross Collection.
Ross remains best known as the host of “The Joy of Painting,” where his calm delivery and accessible instruction helped introduce generations of viewers to landscape painting. The new gallery collection allows users to display his artwork on supported LG televisions while working, relaxing, entertaining guests or using the screen as part of a room’s decor.
“Through the years, we’ve heard so many times how folks want to enjoy Bob’s paintings in their homes, and not just with posters, prints or pages in a book,” Joan Kowalski, the President of Bob Ross Inc., said in a statement on Monday. “This new Gallery finally fulfills the desire to experience his incredible masterpieces – those strong mountains, supple clouds, velvety grass and mirror-like water — in the most fluid, ethereal way possible. It’s another way to naturally enjoy television’s favorite painter and the legacy he left us.”
LG said Gallery TV users can access Bob Ross finished works through a three-month free trial of LG Gallery Plus premium. The service also has a free version, while the full premium tier requires a subscription, account login and payment registration.
“LG TVs have always brought people together, and bringing Bob Ross’ legacy to the big screen through LG Gallery Plus makes that experience even more personal,” said Matthew Durgin, the Vice President of LG Content and Services at LG Electronics. “LG Channels users can experience an endless loop of feel-good painting, happy little cloud and that signature Bob Ross wisdom. Now, LG Art TV users can access Bob’s finished pieces of art with a three-month free trial of LG Gallery+ premium.”
The gallery launch builds on Cineverse’s existing Bob Ross distribution through The Bob Ross Channel, a free ad-supported streaming television channel operated in partnership with Bob Ross Inc. and American Public Television.
The channel carries nearly 400 episodes of “The Joy of Painting” and is available on LG Channels as Channel 588. Cineverse said the service is one of its top FAST channels.
