The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has approved the transfer of local broadcast television licenses from Howard Stirk Holdings to Sinclair, Inc., allowing a $3.25 million deal to proceed and close.
The stations have been operated by Sinclair through a shared services agreement with Howard Stirk Holdings, the company led by political commentator and entrepreneur Armstrong Williams. On August 20, Williams moved to convert that arrangement into outright ownership by Sinclair, according to financial and regulatory filings.
The transaction includes WGWG-TV (Channel 4) in Charleston, South Carolina, a full-time affiliate of Weigel Broadcasting’s classic TV network MeTV, as well as independent TV stations in Alabama and Nevada. Sinclair has operated some of those stations through shared services agreements.
The asset purchase agreement also includes $3 million in capital expenditure investments by Sinclair. Those planned investments include antenna and transmission equipment upgrades for KHSV-TV.
