Jon Stewart has signed a new two-year agreement with Comedy Central that will keep him at “The Daily Show” through 2028, extending his tenure as the program’s once-a-week host and its Executive Producer.
The agreement replaces a previous one-year extension that was scheduled to expire at the end of 2026. It also ensures Stewart will remain with the late-night political comedy program through the 2028 presidential election.
Stewart will continue hosting one episode per week, typically on Mondays, while serving as Executive Producer throughout the show’s weekly production schedule.
“Jon Stewart is a generational talent, and The Daily Show continues to be one of the most influential franchises on television and a cornerstone of Comedy Central,” George Cheeks, the co-Chair and Chief Content Officer of Skydance TV, said in a statement.
“We are excited to continue our partnership with Jon and his award-winning news team,” Cheeks added.
Stewart returned to The Daily Show in February 2024, nearly nine years after ending his original 16-year run as its host.
His return has coincided with improved ratings for the program. During the third quarter of 2026, “The Daily Show” averaged slightly more than 1 million viewers, its largest third-quarter audience since 2018.
The program uses a rotating group of correspondents to host its Tuesday through Thursday episodes, including Ronny Chieng, Josh Johnson, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta and Desi Lydic. Troy Iwata and Grace Kuhlenschmidt also serve as correspondents.
Stewart additionally hosts “The Weekly Show,” a podcast associated with the Comedy Central program.
