The domain name registrar that serves the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper experienced a cyber attack on Saturday, leaving some readers unable to access the website over the weekend and into Monday morning.
The paper said it was posting major updates on Facebook, Tumblr and Twitter.
Sun-Times Managing Editor Craig Newman wrote that the paper’s website “fell victim to a cyber attack” after the domain name vendor used by the company had a “security issue.”
Newman wrote on Saturday that it could take “some hours…before all traces of the attack have been eradicated,” though some readers were still complaining of site issues as of Monday morning.
Personal information of subscribers and suntimes.com readers was not affected by the attack, Newman wrote.
