Weigel Broadcasting’s classic television network MeTV will celebrate the 75th anniversary of “I Love Lucy” with a five-hour marathon of episodes from the classic sitcom.
The marathon will air Sunday, October 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern and Pacific Time. The programming block will feature a collection of episodes from the series, which remains one of television’s most recognizable sitcoms decades after its debut.
I Love Lucy starred Lucille Ball as Lucy Ricardo, a housewife whose elaborate plans often placed her at the center of comic situations. Desi Arnaz played her husband Ricky Ricardo, a nightclub bandleader. William Frawley and Vivian Vance co-starred as Fred and Ethel Mertz, the couple’s landlords and close friends.
Weigel Broadcasting Vice Chairman Neal Sabin said the series had a lasting influence on the sitcom format.
“Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz created the greatest sitcom of all time,” Sabin proclaimed in a press release on Friday. “Virtually every sitcom created since embodies elements of what these two innovators developed technically, talent and story construction wise.”
Sabin said MeTV is “honored to be a home for this timeless and memorable part of our shared love of TV and all things Lucy.”
I Love Lucy airs regularly on MeTV Sundays at 12:30 p.m. Eastern and Pacific Time.
MeTV is available on broadcast television over the air in 98 percent of the country, on select cable and satellite systems and through streaming services including Frndly TV, Philo, Fubo and Sling TV.
