Oldies music broadcaster Bruce Meyerowitz, better known by his on-air name “Cousin Brucie,” will depart satellite radio service SiriusXM after nearly 15 years on the air.

The news was first reported Friday evening by the trade publication Deadline Hollywood.

Meyerowitz has been spinning oldies hits on SiriusXM pop channel “60s on 6” since he 2005. He joined the satellite radio company from WCBS (101.1 FM) after the terrestrial station flipped from playing oldies music to adult contemporary hits, a format change widely regarded as one of the most-disastrous in New York City radio history.

The broadcaster earned his current nickname “Cousin Brucie” after joining news radio station WINS (1010 AM) in 1959. Two years later, he joined WABC (770 AM) before landing at WCBS in the early 1980s.

After WCBS changed formats, Meyerowitz left free radio for the freedom of Sirius Satellite Radio where he hosted an evening drive show five days a week. He also produced a weekly talk program that aired on Wednesdays.

Meyerowitz was brought over to the newly-formed SiriusXM when Sirius and rival broadcaster XM Satellite Radio merged in 2008.

The circumstances behind his departure are unknown, though it comes less than a year after another SiriusXM broadcast staple Kid Kelly left the company.

Late Friday night, Meyerowitz said he was not retiring from radio and promised a return to the airwaves after a short break to spend time with his family.

“Jodie and I are in good health and we are looking forward to our next adventure,” Meyerowitz wrote on Facebook, referring to his spouse.
