Fox Corporation’s cable news and business programming will soon be available to audiences in other countries, executives with the media company announced on Tuesday.
Fox News International is a new streaming platform that brings together programming from the Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network. The service will launch August 20 at a price point of $7 per month.
For years, Fox News has been available overseas on traditional cable and satellite systems throughout Europe and in parts of the Middle East, Africa and Asia. The Fox Business Network has mostly been limited to cable, satellite and streaming cable alternatives in the United States and Canada.
On Tuesday, Fox Corporation executives said the new Fox News International service will offer live feeds of both Fox News and Fox Business along with on-demand video from shows airing on both channels.
“We are excited to debut FOX News International, enabling our devoted audience overseas access to their trusted source for news and insightful analysis,” Suzanne Scott, the chief executive of Fox News Media, said in a statement. “With a catalog of more than 20 signature programs on-demand and live streams of our linear networks, this new digital streaming service will ensure our viewers around the world never miss out on the latest from America’s leading news channel.”
Fox Corporation says Fox News International will be available on iOS and Android mobile devices as well and Android TV and Apple TV’s streaming platforms. Support for Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices are expected at a later date. The service will launch in Mexico first followed by subsequent rollouts to viewers in Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom and more than a doze other countries.
The international channel will be Fox’s second foray into the global news market. Before a series of mergers, divestitures and spinoffs, Fox’s former parent company 21st Century Fox also operated the Sky satellite service, which had a controlling stake in domestic news channel Sky News. An international variant of Sky News was made available to viewers outside the United Kingdom via the Internet several years ago.
Fox News was available to Sky satellite customers until 2017 when the channel was removed following a takeover offer made by 21st Century Fox. Sky was ultimately purchased by rival programmers Comcast the following year, bringing Sky News under the same ownership as NBC News. Sky News became available on Comcast’s new streaming service Peacock in April.
