KCRA taps former KTXL reporter for Stockton bureau position

KCRA has hired Kay Recede to report from its San Joaquin County bureau, according to a social media post.

Recede joins Sacramento’s NBC affiliate from KTXL (Channel 40), where she worked as a general assignment reporter for six years.

“New year, new job, find me in Stockton,” Recede wrote on the website Twitter. Her tweet was accompanied by a picture showing Recede in KCRA’s (Channel 3) Sacramento newsroom.

Before moving to Sacramento, Recede worked as a weekend news anchor for NBC affiliate KTSM (Channel 9) and CBS affiliate KDBC-TV (Channel 4) in El Paso, Texas (at the time of her employment, both stations shared resources under a local marketing agreement).

She began her career at another Channel 3: KIEM-TV, an NBC affiliate in Eureka where she served as a general assignment reporter and a fill-in news anchor for two years.

Recede fills a spot left vacant by former Stockton bureau chief Melinda Meza, who was dismissed by KCRA in late July several months after a news story containing unedited footage filmed in her bathroom went viral on YouTube and Reddit. An editor who reviewed the footage was disciplined but not dismissed. Melinda has declined to comment on the incident when contacted by The Desk.

KCRA is owned by Hearst Television.
