Vidgo begins offering WGN America to subscribers

Nexstar Media Group’s national cable channel WGN America is now available to Vidgo customers.

The channel became available to Vidgo subscribers less than a day after an agreement was announced between the streaming TV service and Nexstar.

“We are excited to be adding Vidgo’s customers the network’s reach, and to be bringing NewsNation and Banfield to more viewers who can watch us whenever and wherever they desire,” Sean Compton, an executive with Nexstar, said in a statement.

Once a cable-only superstation of Nexstar’s flagship independent channel in Chicago, WGN America is now making aggressive moves into streaming-only homes. Nexstar has used carriage of its 160-plus local TV channels across the country as a bargaining chip to forge new distribution agreements with Dish Network’s Sling TV, Disney’s Hulu with Live TV, Fubo TV and Google’s YouTube TV, all of whom have agreed to start carrying the channel at some point this year. Likewise, Vidgo has been aggressively trying to compete against bigger-name streaming services by beefing up its carriage deals so it can provide channels channels from Disney, Fox Corporation, ViacomCBS, Discovery Network, A+E Networks and others. The company is offering new customers over 85 channels for $10 a month for the first two months of their service; a regular subscription to Vidgo starts at $55 a month, which is still cheaper than most streaming TV services that carry expensive sports and news packages.
