Nexstar Media Group has started looking for a new leader to take over the newsroom at Sacramento’s FOX affiliate KTXL-TV.
In job postings reviewed by The Desk on Thursday, Nexstar said it was looking to fill a soon-to-be-vacant news director position at KTXL (Channel 40).
The position is currently held by Monika Diaz, a former television news reporter who was hired by KTXL’s former parent company Tribune Media in 2014 to serve as the station’s managing editor. She was promoted to the position of assistant news director in 2016 and to the top newsroom position one year later.
It wasn’t clear if Diaz was changing roles within the station or leaving for another. She did not respond to a message sent via Facebook as of Thursday evening. The news director change-up was confirmed by two sources who spoke with The Desk on background.
In addition to several hours of local news content, KTXL produces the California political affairs program “Inside California Politics,” which is syndicated to around a half-dozen other local Nexstar-owned stations in the state.
