Paramount Plus to get Epix movies later this summer

The new ViacomCBS-powered streaming service Paramount Plus will expand its library this summer with titles from premium movie channel Epix, the company’s chief executive announced this week.

Speaking at the Morgan Stanley TMT Conference, ViacomCBS Chief Executive Officer Robert Bakish confirmed a handful of Epix movies and shows would land on Paramount Plus at the beginning of June.

Paramount Plus rolls out on March 4, replacing ViacomCBS’ premium streaming service CBS All Access. At launch, Paramount Plus will contain thousands of hours of movies and TV shows, primarily from brands associated with the company, including CBS, MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, Smithsonian Channel, Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures.

With Paramount Plus, ViacomCBS appears to be pursuing a content licensing strategy that is inviting of third party content. Comcast approached the same strategy when it launched Peacock last year; that streaming service contains a handful of content licensed from ViacomCBS, including programs from Showtime and the hit Paramount Network drama “Yellowstone.”

Paramount Plus will cost $5 a month with commercials and $10 a month for an ad-free experience. Customers who agree to sign up before March 4 can receive up to 50 percent off an annual subscription, bringing the price down to $30 with ads and $50 without.

To be eligible for the deal, customers must sign-up for CBS All Access before the end of March 3 by clicking this link, must choose an annual plan, and must enter the code PARAMOUNTPLUS at check-out.
