Verizon gives free AMC Plus access to some subscribers

Verizon is offering some customers of its wireless and fiber Internet service an extended free trial of the streaming service AMC Plus.

Customers who subscribe to Verizon Fios will get 12 months of AMC Plus for free when they sign up for a Mix & Match plan, which starts at $40 a month for basic Internet service.

The deal is also being offered to new and existing Verizon wireless phone customers who buy a new 5G-capable phone on installment. The phone must be a new line activation, and customers are required to choose between the “Play More,” “Get More” or “Do More” unlimited plans.

Customers who simply upgrade their current phone to a 5G-capable handset without adding a new line of service qualify for six free months of AMC Plus.

“Over the last year, we have seen tremendous interest in AMC Plus from consumers and our distribution partners,” Josh Reader, an executive in charge of distribution at AMC Network, said in a statement, adding that the timing of the Verizon partnership comes as the network is set to debut the final season of the popular “Walking Dead” franchise.

Along with programs currently and previously aired on its flagship cable network, AMC Plus offers access to content from AMC’s sister networks IFC and Sundance, the streaming service Shudder and original content not found anywhere else.

The partnership continues a strategy at Verizon of offering free or discounted access to streaming services to customers of its wireless phone service: In addition to the AMC Plus partnership, Verizon has offered extended free trials or unlimited, complementary access to streaming services operated by the Walt Disney Company, including Disney Plus, Hulu and ESPN Plus. Verizon also offered a limited trial of Discovery Plus to some of its wireless customers.
