The Walt Disney Company will raise the price of its streaming television service Hulu by $1 a month, the company announced in a note to customers sent on Tuesday.
The price increase takes effect October 8, when the base price of Hulu’s ad-supported tier will rise to $7 a month. The price of its commercial-free tier will likewise increase from $12 a month to $13 a month.
A price increase is also in store for Disney’s linear pay television service, Hulu with Live TV, which will cost $70 a month, up from $65 a month.
Disney is not raising prices for customers who bundle Hulu with its two other streaming services, Disney Plus and ESPN Plus, with the cost of that bundle remaining $14 a month with commercials on Hulu or $20 a month without.
Disney appears to be cashing in on Hulu’s success in recent months. In its recent quarterly earnings report, Disney said its $4.3 billion in revenue was spurred in part by an increased interest in Hulu, which helped it stem operational losses as the cost of programming and production at Disney Plus swelled.
Hulu’s live television service increased from 3.1 million subscribers last year to 3.4 million this year, though it lost 100,000 customers in the three-month quarter ending in July.
