Warner Bros Discovery will pull the plug on its news streaming service CNN Plus two days earlier than expected, according to support documentation reviewed by The Desk on Wednesday.
The fledgling streaming news service will officially close up shop on April 28. Last week, officials at Warner Bros Discovery had set April 30 as the last day the service would operate.
This week, subscribers who agreed to pay for an annual CNN Plus subscription began receiving emails explaining how the company would issue pro-rated refunds. The emails said CNN Plus would officially end on April 28, according to several messages reviewed by The Desk.
The service’s support website was also updated this week to reflect the new discontinuation date.
Subscribers who paid for a full year of service will receive a full refund by May 28, the news network says. Those who paid for a monthly subscription will receive a pro-rated refund for any unused service.
The company says customers do not need to unsubscribe in order to receive the refund, and the network will not charge customers after April 28. The CNN app will continue to be free to use, and Warner Bros Discovery is weighing options to move CNN Plus Originals and other programming to its other streaming service, HBO Max.
