Streaming TV service Philo is already known for offering live and on-demand cable channels through the Internet at a wallet-friendly price. Now the streaming service is getting into the original content game.
On Wednesday, Philo began distributing its first original series, “Boss Moves with Rasheeda,” produced in partnership with California-based entertainment company Kin Community. The show is hosted by rapper Rasheeda Buckner-Frost — known professionally on a one-name basis — who will “welcome audiences into her homes and businesses to give them a never-before seen inside look at how she manages her growing empire,” Philo executive Matt Stein wrote in a blog post.
“From restaurants to fashion to her international real estate holdings, Rasheeda’s hustle never lets up,” Stein said. “Informative, aspirational, and full of excitement, viewers of ‘Boss Moves’ will be treated to tips on how they can follow Rasheeda’s lead and grow their own empire.”
“Boss Moves” will be exclusive to Philo, with new episodes dropping every Wednesday, the company said. The first two episodes of the 12-episode series became available to stream at midnight.
The show is another part of an evolving partnership between Philo and Kin Community that was announced earlier this year. In February, Philo announced it would add Kin Community’s video-on demand library to the service, which includes shows fronted by Christina Milian (“Really, Truly, Maybe”) and Jordin Sparks (“Heart of the Batter”).
“Kin’s special brand of female-focused lifestyle content — with an emphasis on entrepreneurship and female empowerment from diverse talent — fits perfectly into the Philo lineup,” Stein wrote.
Kin Community’s video-on demand library can be found by searching “Kin” within the Philo’s app.
Along with the Kin Community shows, Philo offers more than five dozen cable television channels delivered over the Internet for $25 a month. The service includes access to channels programmed by Paramount Global (MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon), AMC Networks (AMC, IFC, BBC America, BBC World News), A+E Networks (A&E, History Channel, Lifetime) and the Discovery half of the Warner Bros Discovery portfolio of networks (Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, HGTV), among others.
The service is available on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV (Google TV) and Apple TV as well as most popular smartphones and tablets. A seven-day free trial is available to new customers who want to check out Philo before committing to a paid subscription.
