Fox Corporation says its Sunday morning broadcast of the final FIFA 2022 World Cup match drew more than 16.7 million viewers.

The event was the most-watched World Cup telecast for an English-language broadcast station in the United States, drawing more viewers than the USA v. England match earlier in the tournament, which had more than 15.4 million viewers, Fox said in a short statement on Tuesday.

The final was also the most-watched concluding match for the FIFA World Cup since Italy v. Brazil in 1994, which had more than 14.5 million viewers.

The Spanish-language broadcast rights in the United States were held by Comcast’s Telemundo, which saw 9 million people watch the final match live on Telemundo stations and streamed on Peacock.

The combined total viewership on Fox and Telemundo for the final World Cup match was more than 25.7 million, making it the second-biggest soccer match in American television history.

Argentina beat France during a post-overtime shootout to win the FIFA 2022 World Cup final match.
