A radio station with a loyal following in Sacramento will host a celebration of its history ahead of an impending format flip.

This week, KCCL (101.5 FM, K-HITS) said it will “celebrate the history of K-HITS” during a special broadcast on Friday, April 7 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific Time.

During the broadcast, KCCL will offer retrospectives from current and past on-air talent, producers and other employees who have worked for the station at some point over the last 15 years. Those staffers include Joey Mitchell, Jennifer Steele, “Big Jim” Hall and others.

“It’s been our privilege to be with you in your car, at your pool party and in your office and home for these past 15-plus years,” a station official wrote on its website. “We want to thank you for making K-HITS the best radio station in Sacramento.”

In February, KCCL parent company Results Radio announced it was selling the station and its license to Lazer Broadcasting for around $1.9 million. The deal is expected to secure the necessary regulatory approval to go through, and is expected to close this summer.

After the deal goes through Lazer is expected to shut down the classic rock format on KCCL and broadcast Regional Mexicana under the “Radio Lazer” brand, according to people familiar with the move.

The closure of KCCL as K-HITS will leave the Sacramento without a full-power classic hits station. Two other stations — KRYV (93.7 FM, The River) and KSEG (96.9 FM, The Eagle) — broadcast classic rock, while low-power station KZHP-LP (93.3 FM, K-ZAP) offers an eclectic mix of rock and blues music.
