Scripps News to syndicate shows to broadcast stations

The E. W. Scripps Company’s streaming news channel Scripps News will start syndicating some of its programming to broadcast TV stations across the country.

Twenty-five TV stations have signed on to carry one or more Scripps News programs as of Monday, according to a memo written by Scripps News President Kate O’Brian and seen by The Desk.

“There will be more stations airing Scripps News in the fall,” O’Brian wrote. “Our excellent content will be seen by many more people on their trusted local stations, in many cases adjacent to their own local news.”

Except for one, the TV stations carrying Scripps News programming are owned by Scripps. Cox-owned KIRO-TV (Channel 7), the CBS affiliate in Seattle, will also air Scripps News shows.

The stations that will start offering Scripps News programming from Monday onward include:

  • KGUN (Channel 9, ABC) in Tucson
  • KIRO (Channel 7, CBS) in Seattle
  • KIVI (Channel 6, ABC) in Boise
  • KJRH (Channel 2, NBC) in Tulsa
  • KRHD-CD (Channel 40, ABC) in College Station, TX
  • KSBY (Channel 6, NBC) in Santa Barbara
  • KSAW (Channel 6, ABC) in Twin Falls, ID
  • KSTU (Channel 13, Fox) in Salt Lake City
  • KTNV (Channel 13, ABC) in Las Vegas
  • KTGF-LD (Channel 50, NBC) in Great Falls, MT
  • KTVH (Channel 12, NBC) in Helena, MT
  • KXXV (Channel 25, ABC) in Waco
  • KZTV (Channel 10, CBS) in Corpus Christi
  • WCPO (Channel 9, ABC) in Cincinnati
  • WEWS (Channel 5, ABC) in Cleveland
  • WFTS (Channel 28, ABC) in Tampa
  • WGBA (Channel 26, NBC) in Green Bay
  • WMAR (Channel 2, ABC) in Baltimore
  • WPTV (Channel 5, NBC) in West Palm Beach
  • WSFL (Channel 39, CW) in Miami
  • WTKR (Channel 3, CBS) in Virginia Beach
  • WTMJ (Channel 4, NBC) in Milwaukee
  • WTVF (Channel 5, CBS) in Nashville
  • WTXL (Channel 27, ABC) in Tallahassee

The decision to syndicate shows to broadcast outlets comes about two months after Scripps News expanded its weekday and weekend line-up to incorporate more live news broadcasts.

“We continue to expect the best of ourselves; quality breaking coverage, smart context, and beautiful storytelling across all our dayparts,” O’Brian said. “This opportunity to show news audiences what we do is a vital step in becoming a widely known and trusted news source.”

Scripps News is available as a free streaming channel on Pluto TV, Xumo Play, Fox Corporation’s Tubi, Google TV, Amazon Freevee, Vizio WatchFree Plus, Roku Channel, Local Now, Samsung TV Plus and Sling Freestream. The channel is also offered on Fubo, Sling TV and YouTube TV.
