An executive for Dominion Voting Systems has settled a defamation lawsuit brought against a broadcaster for election-related conspiracy theories promoted after the 2020 presidential election.
Court documents released this week revealed former Dominion security chief Eric Coomer reached an out-of-court settlement with Herring Networks and Chanel Rion, a reporter for Herring’s One America News channel.
Rion and Herring were sued by Coomer after the broadcaster attempted to link him to purported malfunctions involving Dominion’s voting machines during the election three years ago. Purported problems with Dominions voting machines were widely discussed on One America News and other right-of-center news outlets like Fox News and Newsmax, with unfounded conspiracies suggesting Dominion’s machines improperly switched votes from incumbent President Donald Trump to Democratic challenger Joe Biden.
Terms of the settlement reached with Herring and Rion weren’t immediately available. It wasn’t clear if the settlement included a cash payment. Dominion itself was not a party to that lawsuit, but is suing Herring Networks in a separate case with similar allegations Earlier this year, Dominion settled a defamation case brought against Fox News and its parent, Fox Corporation, for $787.5 million.
The settlement between Coomer, Herring and Rion was first reported on Tuesday by CNN.
