Electronics retailer Currys will start offering a new line of JVC-branded Roku TVs in more than 280 of its stores in the United Kingdom later this month.
The deal was announced in a press release issued by Roku last Wednesday, which said Currys will sell an assortment of JVC Roku TVs that come in a variety of screen sizes between 24 and 43 inches.
The TVs will offer streaming access to a number of popular services, including Netflix, Prime Video, BBC iPlayer, ITVx, Channel 4, My5, Disney Plus, Apple TV Plus, YouTube, Paramount Plus and others.
The high-definition TV sets will support HDR 10 picture quality and include a voice-powered remote control that allows users to navigate between apps and search for movies and TV shows.
“We are thrilled to announce the launch of Roku Operating System within our JVC TVs,” Paul Slater, the vision expert at Currys, said in a statement. “I’m confident this new exciting partnership will not only complement our existing portfolio, but further strengthen our offering of customer focused smart TVs.”
The launch of the Roku TVs comes as the streaming platform continues to push further into new markets, including Europe. Part of that strategy includes forging licensing agreements with original equipment manufacturers like Currys, which manufactures JVC electronics in the U.K.
“The Roku OS delivers a smart TV experience like no other, with features that make it easier, faster, and more affordable for consumers to watch what they love,” Bart Bomers, the vice president of Roku’s Europe, Middle Esat and Africa business, said last week. “It is not without reason that Roku is the number one TV streaming platform by hours streamed in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and our partnership with Currys extends our commitment to bringing our popular platform to more people in the U.K.”
The JVC-branded Roku TVs will go on sale later this month, with a starting price of £170 (around U.S. $210). Streamers who can’t wait, or who simply want to add Roku’s operating system to their existing TVs, can pick up a Roku streaming device at Currys for around £20 (around U.S. $25).
