Wallet-friendly streaming cable replacement Philo is adding around a dozen new channels programmed by AMC Networks, the company announced on Tuesday.
The 10 new channels come from AMC’s portfolio of free, ad-supported content streams, and includes channels themed from hit AMC franchises like “Portlandia” and “The Walking Dead.”
The new channels added to Philo this week are:
- Allblk Gems
- All Reality We TV
- All Weddings by We TV
- AMC Thrillers
- Anime x HiDive
- IFC Film Picks
- Portlandia IFC
- Slightly Off by IFC
- Stories by AMC
- The Walking Dead Universe
The new streaming options are incorporated in Philo’s “free channels” section, but the free channels still require a subscription to Philo’s $25 a month base programming plan. That plan includes access to streaming versions of over 70 top-tier cable channels, including legacy AMC channels like AMC, IFC, We TV, BBC America, BBC News and Sundance TV. AMC Networks is an investor-owner in Philo.
Over the last few months, Philo has been laser-focused on bringing more free, ad-supported streaming channels to its service, which allows it to increase the amount of content offered to subscribers without raising the cost of Philo’s core offering. Other free, ad-supported streaming channels offered on Philo include USA Today, Crackle, Screambox TV, Bob Ross Channel and Fail Army.
Philo costs $25 a month and is available on most popular smart TV platforms — including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV (Google TV), Apple TV and newer-model Samsung smart TVs — as well as through dedicated apps for Apple and Android phones and tablets.
