Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) will partner with Telefónica’s pay television service Movistar Plus to distribute Warner Bros catalog of TV shows, movies and live sports through its streaming service Max early next year.

The partnership will see Movistar Plus offer subscribers a regional variant of WBD’s general entertainment streaming service Max when it debuts in Spain and around 20 other European countries in Spring 2024.

The agreement also extends an existing deal that allows Movistar Plus to distribute WBD’s linear channels, including Spanish variants of Turner Classic Movies, the Discovery Channel, CNN and Eurosport, the companies said.

“Spain represents one of the key territories for WBD and the partnership with an operator like Movistar is a crucial factor for the continued solid and steady growth of our streaming business internationally,” Alessandro Araimo, the managing director of WBD’s Southern European territory, said in a statement.

WBD is also working to roll out rebranded version of its streaming service in the Nordic region, the Netherlands, Central Europe, France and Belgium, all of which will soon see Max take the place of HBO’s streaming product there.

British streamers will have to wait a while in order to get Max, as WBD currently has a deal with Comcast’s satellite service Sky to distribute much of its HBO content library through the linear channel Sky Atlantic. That deal, which was renewed in 2019, is set to lapse in the second half of next year.
