Nielsen has hired Jared Grusd, a former executive with Verizon and Snapchat, to serve as its new CEO of its content recognition and metadata business Gracenote, the company announced on Monday.
Grusd joins Nielsen and Gracenote after co-founding Ethiqly, an education technology company that was focused primarily on the development and deployment of artificial intelligence tools. His prior credits also include executive roles at Spotify, Verizon (the Huffington Post), AOL (pre-Verizon purchase) Snapchat, Google and the financial technology firm Chime.
As part of Grusd’s hiring, General Manager Sujit Das Munshi will be promoted to the role of Chief Operating Officer at Gracenote, a spokesperson for Nielsen affirmed.
“I’m honored to join Nielsen and build on the tremendous innovation and growth that Gracenote has achieved under Sujit’s strong vision and strategy,” Grusd said in a statement. “This is an exciting time as our industry embraces advanced technologies and we look for new ways of working with clients and increasing the value we bring to market. I’m excited to help define the next chapter of Gracenote.”
“Gracenote is a critical part of Nielsen and our strategy as we look to grow in streaming and lead the advancement of Convergent TV in the media measurement industry,” said Karthik Rao, the CEO of Nielsen. “Jared’s background and passion for transforming businesses to improve society is aligned with our future, and I’m grateful for his partnership as we transform our industry together.”
