Samsung has forged a licensing deal with Loewe that will see the latter incorporate Samsung’s connected television operating system into its luxury line-up of smart TVs.

The “Stellar” model of Loewe TVs will hit store shelves in Europe this week. It is the latest smart TV model powered by Tizen OS through Samsung’s smart TV licensing business, which launched two years ago.

“This new collaboration with Loewe ensures that its latest luxury TV, stellar, will exceed expectations with the high-end experiences it brings to consumers,” said YS Kim, a Samsung executive vice president in charge of the company’s visual display business. “It’s also more momentum for Tizen OS, which has established itself as the software platform of choice for premium TVs. Moving forward, we will continue to push the boundaries of how users interact with their TVs.”

Samsung said Loewe chose Tizen OS “to enhance the viewing experience of its consumers,” and that the deal to incorporate the connected TV platform into the Stellar model of TVs “underscores the mutual commitment of both companies to deliver superior user experiences.”

Stellar model TVs manufactured by Loewe will offer many of the same features as Samsung’s own Tizen-powered TV sets, including access to the free, ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) platform Samsung TV Plus and compatibility with Samsung’s home connection protocol SmartThings. Stellar models will also gain access to Gaming Hub, a Samsung platform that offers more than 1,000 games without the need for a dedicated console.

Worldwide, Tizen OS powers more than 240 million smart TVs.
