Caitlin Clark is proving to be ratings gold for the E. W. Scripps Company.
The broadcaster’s national television network Ion has logged more than one million viewers across its five most-watched Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) games since it started offering live events from the league — and all five games involved Clark and the Indiana Fever.
The network scored more than 1.6 million viewers with a pair of WNBA telecasts that aired last Friday, which saw Clark and the Fever take on the Chicago Sky. The ratings figure also included local Ion TV broadcasts for a game played between the Minnesota Lynx and Dallas Wings, according to a note from Scripps.
Viewership of the Fever-Sky game peaked at nearly 2 million viewers, according to Nielsen data shared by Scripps, making it the “most-watched WNBA game ever on Ion.” The network began offering live WNBA games last year.
Two Fever games against the Phoenix Mercury and a pair of Fever games against the Atlanta Dream and Washington Mystics also made Ion’s list of most-watched WNBA events.
Clark and the Fever will take on the Lynx on Friday, September 6, and the Las Vegas Aces on Friday, September 13. Both games are scheduled to air on Ion, which also distributes live spots through the Ion free, ad-supported streaming TV channel on platforms like Tubi and Freevee.
