Wallet-conscious streaming service Philo has upped its offering of free, ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels by incorporating new linear content channels from PBS, Fremantle Media and others.
The channels add to Philo’s growing collection of FAST content streams, which clock in at nearly 100, complementing the company’s 70-plus premium cable and multicast TV networks.
The new channels added to Philo on Tuesday are:
- Baywatch (marathon channel)
- BUZZR (game shows)
- Cinelife
- Craftsy TV
- PBS: Antiques Roadshow
- The Price is Right: The Barker Era
The channels, added to Philo on Tuesday, do not require a subscription to Philo’s base programming package, which costs $28 per month — though, if customers do add a Philo subscription after a generous free trial, they will also unlock channels like Comedy Central, BET, Nickelodeon, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, TV Land, MeTV Toons and History Channel.
Philo’s core programming package also includes access to the ad-supported tier of AMC Plus. Customers can upgrade to the commercial-free version of AMC Plus, and purchase subscriptions to Starz and MGM Plus, for separate fees.
Philo allows customers to record an unlimited amount of shows to a cloud-based DVR, with shows and movies preserved for at least a year after they air on TV. The service allows up to 10 user profiles and up to 3 simultaneous streams per account, and is widely supported on connected TV platforms like Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV (Google TV), Apple TV and Samsung Tizen-powered smart TVs.
