Spanish-language broadcaster Univision says it will delay its scheduled town hall interview with former President Donald Trump amid safety concerns due to Hurricane Milton.
The interview was scheduled to take place Tuesday in Miami, but will now air next Wednesday, October 16. The broadcaster said its scheduled interview with Vice President Kamala Harris is moving forward and will air on Thursday.
The delay associated with Trump’s interview comes as forecasters project Hurricane Milton to slam into the western coast of Florida by the middle of this week. On Monday, the hurricane strengthened into a Category 5 storm, indicating sustained wind speed in excess of 160 miles per hour.
The rapid intensification of the hurricane has triggered mass evacuation orders up and down the western coast of Florida, and spurred forecasters to issue a Hurricane Watch that extends as far inland as Orlando.
Milton is the strongest Atlantic hurricane since Dorian in 2019, and is the fourth-strongest storm since forecasters began keeping records, according to Fox Weather.
Much of the western coast of Florida is still reeling from the effects of Hurricane Helene, which made landfall about two weeks ago and caused devastation in that state and five others. Helene reached the shores of Florida as a Category 4 storm, bringing wind and life-threatening storm surge to the area before moving north into Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee and Virginia.
