The Christmas Day halftime special featuring musical sensation Beyoncé and supported by fellow pop superstars will stream as a separate special on Netflix, the company affirmed this week.
The halftime show streamed live during the second of two National Football League (NFL) games on Wednesday, during which Beyoncé performed in her hometown of Houston, Texas. (The Houston Texans were taking on the Baltimore Ravens in that game.)
Beyoncé performed songs from her record-breaking album “Cowboy Carter,” and was supported by fellow musicians and performers like Post Malone, Shaboozey, Reyna Roberts, Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, and Tiera Kennedy, with Beyoncé’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, joining as a featured dancer during the show.
The highly-anticipated halftime show built on anticipation that Netflix drew with its Christmas Day games, the first-ever live NFL event streamed on the service. While Netflix has not released specific viewership figures for the games or the halftime performance as of Thursday afternoon, the NFL said around one-third of Netflix’s global subscriber base tuned in to watch the first football match-up between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier in the day. The Desk reported that the statement likely meant around 90 million subscribers watched some or all of the first NFL match-up on Netflix.
The games themselves are no longer available on Netflix, with the events re-airing on NFL Network in the United States before being archived on a full-time basis by the league’s streaming service, NFL Plus. Outside the U.S., NFL rights holder DAZN is making both games available to stream, starting Thursday afternoon.
While the games aren’t available on Netflix, the company said Beyoncé’s halftime performance will be made available as a separate special later this week.
