Sinclair, Inc. has released a new version of its streaming television app NewsOn for Roku devices that includes new interactive news-related features.

The NewsOn app for Roku now offers a “zoomable” national radar map with additional layers for various weather information, including wind speed, precipitation and frost and ice conditions, as well as seven-day weather forecasts for each television market where NewsOn offers a live news stream.

Additionally, the NewsOn app for Roku includes an interactive “trending stations” map for navigating breaking news coverage, and a new original series called “What’sOn” that collates headlines from various stations offered through the app.

NewsOn has also updated its Apple and Android mobile apps with breaking news push alerts, news-specific polls and other mobile-first features, the company said.

NewsOn offers live and on-demand newscasts from hundreds of stations, including those owned by Sinclair, Paramount Global’s CBS News and Stations, TEGNA, Hearst Television, Cox Media Group, News Press & Gazette Company and more.

The app is free to download on Apple, Android, Amazon Fire TV and Roku devices, as well as Samsung and Vizio smart TVs. A version of the NewsOn app is in development for LG smart TVs.
