Pay television provider DirecTV has renewed its agreement with Televisa-Univision (stylized as TelevisaUnivision) to continue offering Spanish-language networks like Univision and UniMás to its satellite and streaming TV subscribers.
The agreement also includes distribution of TUDN (Televisa-Univision Deportes Network), a national sports channel, and classic TV channel Galavisión. It also allows DirecTV to put Televisa-Univision’s channels in a new Spanish-language programming package, called MiEspañol, and to offer the ad-supported version of streaming platform Vix Premium included with the purchase of the $35 per month tier.
“We’re excited to expand our partnership with DirecTV, reflecting the continued dedication to our audience and the recognition that Hispanics are a fast-growing part of mainstream America,” Mike Angus, the Executive Vice President of Global Distribution and Partnerships at Televisa-Univision. “This deal not only ensures our industry-leading content reaches millions of viewers, but also solidifies our position as the definitive leader in media among U.S. Hispanics.”
“Whether it’s news, live sports, telenovelas and general entertainment, local civic affairs or any of its other key genres, Televisa-Univision is synonymous with some of the very best in Spanish-language programming,” Rob Thun, the Chief Content Officer at DirecTV, said this week. “We look forward to continuing what has proven an important and mutually beneficial relationship for the next several years.”
The MiEspañol package launched in late February, along with a handful of other programming packages, including:
- MyEntertainment: More than 40 national entertainment and cable news channels, including Animal Planet, FX, FXM, Freeform, Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, National Geographic, Vice TV, Game Show Network and A&E, with the ad-supported plans of Disney Plus and Hulu included (and, soon, Max), priced at $35 per month.
- MyNews: 10 national and global news and current affairs channels, including CNN, CNN International, CNBC, CNBC World, Fox News, Fox Business, i24 News and Bloomberg, priced at $40 per month.
- MySports: Launched late last year, includes local ABC, NBC and Fox broadcasting stations, plus sports channels like ESPN, Fox Sports 1, Golf Channel, MLB Network, NBA TV, NFL Network, NHL Network, USA and more, plus access to ESPN Plus, for just $70 per month.
There are additional mini-packs of movie channels (including Turner Classic Movies) and sports (including NFL RedZone) available for separate fees. The genre-based packages are available within the DirecTV Stream app and are launching on other platforms in the coming months.
