The E. W. Scripps Company’s streaming news channel Scripps News received a number of honors this week, including three National Headliner Awards.

The awards include first place for “Fentanyl: The Silent Toll,” an investigative report that examined the toll that the drug has taken on families, medical experts and social workers across the United States; a second-place designation for “One Woman’s Frontline,” a feature story that spotlighted a group of women and their dogs who traveled to Ukraine in order to locate hundreds of war victims; and a first-place award for “Darin’s War,” a package also rooted in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine that featured a drone team and spotlighted the military’s use of artificial intelligence and emergent technology during the war there.

Scripps News also received two Deadline Club finalist honors for “In the Shadows with Jason Bellini: The Moses Videos” and “Sex, Lies and Deepfakes,” the company noted. The Deadline Club is part of the New York City chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

“These recognitions underscore the significance and relevance of the reporting by our Scripps News team, which is committed to delivering impactful journalism that informs and connects our audiences,” said Matt Simon, the Vice President of Scripps News. “Their dedication to uncovering vital, impactful stories is exemplified in these investigations and in projects like In the Shadows with Jason Bellini, a new Scripps News series that takes viewers behind the front lines of conflicts around the world.”

Additionally, Scripps-owned KNXV (Channel 15, ABC) in Phoenix received a first place National Headliner Award in the public service category for “Policing Phoenix,” an investigative series that took a deep dive into the Phoenix Police Department and a U.S. Department of Justice probe into allegations of civil rights violations. The DOJ investigation was launched in part because of KNXV’s 32-part series, which included stories that incorporated police footage and interviews with victims.

Policing Phoenix was also recognized as an honoree for the Peabody Awards in 2024.
