Comcast is building on its content distribution partnership with Apple by making weekly matches from the tech company’s MLS Season Pass available for free within its platform.
The partnership builds on an announcement made earlier this year that involves Comcast integrating MLS Season Pass into its Xfinity X1 electronic program guide and within the Xfinity Stream app.
Now, Comcast will offer select Major League Soccer (MLS) matches each week for free, without the need for an Apple TV Plus or MLS Season Pass subscription. The matches will be played on Sundays as part of Apple’s “Sunday Night Soccer” franchise.
In addition to the Sunday night games, Xfinity X1 and Xfinity Stream users have free access to MLS 360, a whip-around show produced in English and Spanish that offers live look-ins on in-progress soccer matches.
“Since we kicked off our partnership with Apple and MLS earlier this year, we’ve seen a great response from customers. They’re enjoying MLS 360 and tuning in to the integrated match channels consistently week after week,” Vito Forlenza, the Vice President of Sports Entertainment at Comcast, said in a statement on Thursday. “Adding Sunday Night Soccer for free introduces even more customers to all the excitement of the season and continues our commitment to deliver greater value at no additional cost.”
MLS Sunday Night Soccer will launch on Sunday, May 18, with games available within the Xfinity X1 guide for Comcast’s cable TV subscribers and within Xfinity Stream for broadband customers. All soccer matches will have English and Spanish commentary tracks.
Comcast customers can also discover MLS Season Pass matches by saying “MLS” into their voice-powered remote controls.
