DirecTV is now offering the ad-supported tier of Vix Premium within its Spanish-language, genre-based streaming TV package MiEspañol.
The addition comes four months after DirecTV announced a new distribution agreement that allows it to continue offering linear channels from Televisa-Univision, including the flagship Univision and sports channel TUDN (Televisa-Univision Deportes Network), on its streaming and satellite TV services.
DirecTV’s genre-based programming packages offer many of the same broadcast and cable channels available through traditional cable and satellite TV plans. Rather than offering a mixture of all types of channels, the genre-based packages group networks around a common theme like news, sports and entertainment.
MiEspañol offers 60 Spanish-language channels for $35 per month. Vix Premium with Ads is valued at $5 per month when purchased on its own; by purchasing MiEspañol, DirecTV customers save on the expense of buying Vix Premium separately while still getting access to Spanish-language news, sports and entertainment channels.
“MiEspañol is the premiere destination for Spanish-language entertainment,” Vince Torres, the Chief Marketing Officer at DirecTV, said in a statement. “The addition of Vix Premium with Ads makes the experience even better by bringing original series, hit movies, and live sports together with the content our customers already love. And with new Genre Packs that offer more choice and control, we’re giving our Spanish-speaking viewers a richer, more flexible, and more personalized TV experience.”
“With ViX Premium with Ads now available as part of the MiEspañol Genre Pack, we’re delivering even greater value to our partners and audiences by expanding access to the most comprehensive offering of premium Spanish-language content,” said Mike Angus, the Executive Vice President of Global Distribution and Partnerships at Televisa-Univision. “Our commitment to delivering our industry-leading content to U.S. Hispanics wherever they are continues as we expand the reach and accessibility of Spanish-language offerings for our audience.”
