Larry Delia has announced his retirement from local television broadcaster TEGNA after a career in the industry that spans the better part of four decades.
The announcement came in a social media post just before the Thanksgiving holiday, through which Delia said he was privileged to work with teams across several companies in the broadcasting industry.
His most recent role was Senior Vice President of Media Operations at TEGNA, the broadcaster that is in the process of merging with its much-larger peer, Nexstar Media Group. Delia is at least the fourth senior executive to announce their departure from the company over the past two years, with the others including former CEO David Lougee, Chief Operating Officer of Media Lynn Beall and Senior Vice President of News Ellen Crooke.
“As I look ahead to retirement, and whatever interesting opportunities and adventures come next, I’m filled with gratitude for the people and experiences that shaped my career,” Delia wrote on Wednesday.
Delia has served as Vice President and General Manager of several local TV stations during his career, including WVNY (Channel 22, ABC) in Burlington; WPMT (Channel 43, Fox) in York; WXIN (Channel 59, Fox) in Indianapolis and WTHR (Channel 13, NBC) in the same market.
He became president of the Dispatch Broadcast Group from 2016 to 2019. He joined TEGNA that same year after Dispatch Broadcast Group was acquired by the broadcaster for more than $530 million. Delia also served on the NBC affiliate board for more than a decade.
“I will miss the daily work and the remarkable people I’ve had the chance to learn from and partner with, but I’m excited for what’s ahead — the chance to explore new interests, reconnect, and open the next chapter with fresh perspective,” Delia noted.
Delia didn’t say what he intends to pursue next.
