  • Weigel Broadcasting will premiere “Who in the Hell is Regina Jones?” as a multi-network event on February 16 across Dabl, Start TV and Story Television.
  • The documentary spotlights Regina Jones, founder of SOUL magazine, the first national publication dedicated to Black musicians.
  • The film arrives with multiple festival honors, including Outstanding Documentary Feature at the Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival.

Weigel Broadcasting will simulcast an award-winning documentary about the life and career of pioneering journalist Regina Jones across its multicast networks in February, timed to coincide with Black History Month.

“Who in the Hell is Regina Jones?” will air on Dabl, Story Television and Start TV on February 16 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time, with an encore presentation two hours later. The simulcast will allow the documentary to be accessible on local broadcast affiliates, cable TV, satellite and streaming platforms, giving it wide reach across platforms.

The documentary examines the life and legacy of Regina Jones, a pioneering Black journalist who founded SOUL, the first publication dedicated exclusively to Black musicians and cultural perspectives. Launched in 1966, SOUL provided national visibility for artists who were often overlooked by mainstream outlets, offering early coverage of Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Diana Ross, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder during the publication’s 16-year run.

Jones’ personal story anchors the film. Married and pregnant at 15, she survived the 1965 Watts Rebellion, raised five children and persisted in newsrooms and boardrooms that often resisted her presence. Producers say the documentary captures both her influence on the entertainment industry and the broader arc of her experience as a modern Black woman navigating limited opportunities.

“Regina Jones is a testament to the American experience. Her extraordinary life was shaped by history and made history,” producer Alissa Shapiro said in a statement on Thursday, adding that Weigel is “proud and honored” to bring the project to a national audience.

“Who in the Hell is Regina Jones?” has earned multiple festival honors, including Outstanding Documentary Feature at the Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival and runner-up Audience Award at the New Orleans Film Festival.

The film was produced by Weigel Productions Corp and executive produced by Academy Award nominee Sam Pollard. The trailer for the film is available to view by clicking or tapping here.
