Sports-focused streaming service Fubo will offer games from the WNBA’s Chicago Sky to subscribers in the Chicagoland area after inking a distribution deal with Weigel Broadcasting this week.
The deal covers WCIU (Channel 26), which will offer nearly three dozen basketball games from the Chicago Sky this season. The agreement also involves distribution of Weigel-owned multicast networks, including MeTV, MeTV Toons, Heroes & Icons, Catchy Comedy, Movies, Story Television and MeTV Plus.
“In partnership with Weigel Broadcasting, we are thrilled to bring Fubo subscribers even more entertainment programming, including some of the most-loved TV shows and movies of all time,” said Todd Mathers, the Executive Vice President of Content Strategy & Acquisition at Fubo. “Our subscribers in Chicago can also follow the Sky’s pursuit of a second WNBA championship this season, as well as local news and entertainment content, with the addition of WCIU, The U to their channel lineup.”
“Weigel is excited to add our entertainment networks and Chicago’s WCIU, The U to the Fubo platform,” said Jim Hall, the Vice President of Business Development at Weigel. “Giving viewers access to our programming, alongside the popular sports and general entertainment content that Fubo is well known for, is a win-win for their subscribers, our viewers and both our companies.”
The deal comes one day after DirecTV announced it will carry MeTV Toons on its satellite and streaming platform, becoming the first traditional TV platform to offer national carriage of the retro cartoon channel.
In addition to Fubo and DirecTV Stream, Weigel’s multicast networks are also carried coast-to-coast on streaming services Frndly TV and Philo.
