Sacramento’s non-commercial public media station KVIE has launched its third multicast channel, offering lifestyle programming from the PBS brand Create in the Northern California market for the first time.

The channel, called KVIE 3, is the third multicast offering of its kind to originate from KVIE (Channel 6) on digital television, which also offers the main KVIE signal and the spillover channel KVIE 2.

KVIE 3 will offer Create programming from 2 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day, while programming from World Channel is offered in the remaining hours. World Channel was previously carried on KVIE Channel 6.3 until February 2, when KVIE 3 took its place on digital broadcast TV.

KVIE, KVIE 2 and the 24-hour national feeds of World Channel and Create are offered on the KVIE website and PBS app for viewers in the Sacramento TV market, while KVIE 3 will be exclusive to broadcast TV and digital cable for now.

KVIE began offering non-commercial and educational TV programming in the late 1950s, with KVIE 2 launched on Comcast and other local cable systems in the 1990s. KVIE 2 became the first multicast offering available to Sacramento-area viewers on digital broadcast TV in the early 2000s, offering shows and documentaries from the PBS National Program Service.

In addition to the two secondary channels, KVIE offers a 24-hour feed of PBS Kids on its fourth digital channel. That feed is also available on the KVIE website and PBS app.
