Technology developer FreeCast has inked an agreement with DIRECTV that allows the company to start selling the pay television service to residential apartments, condominium complexes and other multifamily communities.
Under the deal, FreeCast is now an authorized distributor of DIRECTV streaming services within multifamily housing, including apartments, condominiums, homeowners associations, student housing and senior living communities, the company told The Desk by e-mail on Thursday.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The partnership was forged through DIRECTV Multifamily, the pay TV provider’s business for apartments, senior living facilities, RV parks and other multi-family establishments.
The agreement allows FreeCast to market and sell DIRECTV’s streaming packages directly to property owners and residents, positioning both companies to capture demand in a segment that has become increasingly important for pay TV distribution.
DIRECTV’s offering for the segment includes flexible packaging and pricing tailored to individual properties, allowing operators to customize channel lineups and service tiers based on resident demographics and demand. Residents also have the option to upgrade their subscriptions with premium add-ons such as HBO Max, Paramount Plus, Showtime, Starz and MGM Plus, which allows customers to expand the programming they receive while creating incremental revenue for property owners and distribution partners alike.
FreeCast is best known for developing its namesake Platform-as-a-Service ecosystem that pairs traditional broadcast channels with free streaming options. A FreeCast app unlocks access to dozens of free streaming channels, with broadcast and cable networks available to users when they pair the FreeCast app with a network-connected tuner built by SiliconDust.
The partnership with DIRECTV is intended to further its turnkey entertainment solution by providing access to a premium pay TV partner that is already familiar to most Americans.
“Our business model has always been about giving people what they want, giving them options,” said FreeCast CEO William Mobley. “Being able to make DIRECTV available in the multifamily space is a significant opportunity for us to further meet the needs of property owners and residents with a trusted, premium television offering, while strengthening our ‘all-in-one place’ streaming entertainment offering.”
The multifamily segment has become increasingly competitive as operators look to differentiate through bundled amenities, including connectivity and entertainment. By integrating DIRECTV’s streaming services into these environments, FreeCast aims to provide a unified solution that aligns with consumer expectations for seamless, app-based viewing across devices.
