After more than a year, Amazon is pulling the plug on an experimental linear TV channel that delivered some of its original and licensed programming from Prime Video in Germany and Austria, the company confirmed this week.

The channel, called Prime, will officially shut down at the beginning of August, an Amazon spokesperson confirmed after media reports in Germany first indicated the channel’s fate in reports over the weekend.

All content that is currently offered through Prime in Germany and Austria will continue to be available through Prime Video on-demand, the spokesperson said.

Amazon launched the Prime channel in April 2025 as an exclusive feature for subscribers in the two countries. The service presented movies, series and live sports already included with Prime Video through a fixed programming schedule.

In addition to Prime, the Prime Video app offers a handful of linear content channels from other broadcasters in Germany, including public service outlets ARD and ZDF.
