Comcast’s streaming service Peacock is launching a new membership program that offers complementary subscriptions and deep discounts at some online stores, including its own NBC Shop, the company announced on Monday.
The program is initially available to a randomly selected group of Peacock Premium and Premium Plus subscribers. Executives at NBC Universal said the test phase is intended to evaluate a broader rewards structure that connects subscribers to itsl programming, brands, live events, consumer products, theme parks and other company assets.
The program is initially available to a randomly selected group of Peacock Premium and Premium Plus subscribers. Peacock said the beta is intended to test a broader rewards structure that connects subscribers to NBC Universal programming, brands, live events, consumer products, theme parks and other company assets.
The membership program is organized around four reward categories: NBC Universal rewards, partner rewards, engagement rewards and experiential rewards. Peacock said the approach is designed around what customers value most, including recognition, exclusive access, flexibility and experiences that extend beyond traditional discounts.
Members are placed into one of three tiers based on how long they have subscribed to Peacock: Gold members have subscribed for three months to one year, Platinum members for one to three years and Diamond members for more than three years. Some rewards will vary by tier; as described, the membership appears to resemble Comcast’s Xfinity Rewards loyalty program, which was revamped earlier this year.
At launch, subscribers who are part of the Peacock membership test program will have access to a 25 percent discount on products sold through the Shop at NBC Studios platform. Bravo Shop discounts will vary by membership level, with Gold members receiving 15 percent off, Platinum members receiving 20 percent off and Diamond members receiving 25 percent off.
The test membership program includes a complimentary one-year Instacart Plus membership. The membership renews as a paid subscription after the complimentary year unless canceled. Instacart Plus benefits include grocery delivery with no delivery fee on qualifying orders, a subscription to New York Times Cooking at no additional cost and family sharing for up to three people.
Peacock is also offering a limited-time Pizza Hut digital code that allows members to buy one menu-priced medium pizza and get a second medium pizza of equal or lesser value free. That offer is unlocked after a member streams three movies.
More rewards are expected to be added as the program evolves, including Universal Parks perks and experiences, NBC Universal content previews and early access to NBC Universal live events.
Peacock is available to purchase directly from NBC Universal, starting at $8 per month for the “Select,” sports-free plan (which isn’t eligible for the membership perks mentioned above) all the way to $18 per month for Peacock Premium Plus, which includes no commercials during on-demand streaming of movies and shows. The “Premium” plan costs $11 per month and includes advertisements across content.
Peacock also includes bundles that pair Peacock Premium with Apple TV for $15 per month and Peacock Premium Plus with Apple TV for $20 per month. Comcast’s Xfinity TV and Xfinity Internet customers can also bundle Peacock with other apps like HBO Max and Disney Plus at varying price points.
