Comcast Technology Solutions rolls out AI workflow tools for media companies

Comcast Technology Solutions (CTS) is introducing a new suite of AI-powered workflow applications for broadcasters, content owners, sports rights holders and operators as the company looks to turn artificial intelligence into practical production and content management tools.

The applications build on CTS’ VideoAI platform and are designed to integrate across the company’s product portfolio, including Comcast Media360 for broadcasters and content owners, Comcast Sports360 for sports organizations and standalone deployments of CTS’ Cloud Video Platform for operators.

CTS is positioning the suite as an end-to-end alternative to standalone AI tools, with applications that can be embedded into existing content processing, video management and monetization workflows. The company said the tools do not require customers to have specialized AI knowledge or separate developer resources.

“The video industry is ready to move past AI hypotheticals and onto production-ready applications that solve real problems, generate new business opportunities, and integrate seamlessly into the workflows they already rely upon,” Bart Spriester, the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Streaming, Broadcast and Advertising at Comcast Technology Solutions, said in a statement.

The new applications include Video Verticalization, which uses AI-driven smart cropping to convert landscape video into portrait formats for social media distribution. CTS said the tool can identify the “action center” of a scene and make cut or pan decisions without manual editor intervention.

Another application focuses on regional language localization. The workflow can extract audio, preserve music and ambient sound, translate dialogue, select AI-generated voices, place finished audio back into the content and generate automated captions.

CTS is also adding Smart Chapters, which can detect intros, credit rolls and potential ad breaks, then use weighting algorithms to select ad break points and trigger stream conditioning, transcoding and packaging.

Metadata Enrichment will generate scene and asset-level metadata for Cloud Video Platform metadata files, enabling semantic and natural language search. CTS said the feature will let content owners search by themes, moods and contextual queries rather than relying solely on traditional keywords.

The company is also rolling out Automated Quality Control, described as AI-powered “virtual eyes-on-glass” monitoring that can detect issues such as black screens, missing audio and other content integrity problems. Intelligent Clipping will allow editors to identify key moments in long-form content through natural language queries, including sports highlights, social media clips and trailer material, then trigger automated processing and publishing workflows.

The applications are integrated into CTS’ Cloud Media Processing engine, a programmable workflow orchestration layer that allows AI processors to be inserted before, during or after content processing. CTS said each application is expected to become commercially available throughout 2026 and 2027.
