Disney-owned streaming cable television replacement Fubo has reached a deal with the National Hockey League to offer locally-televised games from four teams this season, the company announced on Monday.
The agreement covers coverage of the Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues. Regional sports networks (RSNs) covering the four teams will be available on Fubo to subscribers in each team’s respective market in time for the start of the new season.
“Hockey fans in the Carolinas, Columbus, Minnesota and St. Louis can enjoy coverage of their favorite teams on Fubo this season,” Todd Mathers, the Executive Vice President of Content Strategy and Acquisition at Fubo, said in a statement on Monday. “The addition of these RSNs to our already robust local sports coverage means Fubo subscribers can continue to enjoy their favorite local teams despite recent shifts in sports rights ownership.”
David Proper, the Chief Media Officer of the NHL, said the agreement gives fans another option to watch their teams throughout the season.
“We’re excited to bring Hurricanes, Blue Jackets, Wild and Blues games to Fubo,” Proper said. “Fans in Carolina, Columbus, Minnesota and St. Louis bring incredible passion and excitement to the game every night and this partnership gives them another great option to watch their team all season long.”
Fubo said it carries more than 50 regional sports networks in its base package at the lowest cost compared to other streaming options. Its hockey coverage includes NHL Network, ESPN, ABC and regional sports networks.
Out-of-market carriage of NHL games is offered by ESPN Unlimited and the cable/satellite TV package NHL Center Ice.
