Weigel Broadcasting will celebrate the 60th anniversary of “Star Trek” in September with themed programming across MeTV, Heroes & Icons and MeTV Toons, including a special appearance by William Shatner, the company said on Thursday.
Shatner will appear on MeTV’s weekday morning series “Toon In With Me” on September 8 at 7 a.m. Eastern and Pacific Time. The date marks the anniversary of the original “Star Trek” premiere on NBC in 1966.
During the episode, Shatner will join host Bill Leff and Toony the Tuna to discuss current creative projects and reflect on the legacy of the science-fiction franchise.
H&I will present all 79 episodes of the original “Star Trek” series over several days beginning Sunday, September 6 at 11 a.m. Eastern and Pacific with “The Man Trap,” the first episode broadcast on NBC. The marathon will continue through the week and conclude early Saturday, September 11 with “Turnabout Intruder.”
MeTV Toons will also participate in the anniversary programming with a six-episode marathon of “Star Trek: The Animated Series” on Saturday, September 5 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern and Pacific.
MeTV will dedicate late-night Saturday programming blocks in September to “Star Trek,” airing themed episodes and specials from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Eastern and Pacific.
The September 5-6 block will focus on “Star Trek” specials, including “Leonard Nimoy’s Star Trek Memories,” “Star Trek: Beyond the Final Frontier,” “Star Trek 25th Anniversary Special,” “Ultimate Star Trek’s Greatest Moments” and “Star Trek: A Captain’s Log.”
The September 12-13 lineup will feature crossover-related episodes, including “Journey to Babel,” “The Trouble With Tribbles,” “Mirror, Mirror,” “Unification” from “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” “Trials & Tribble-ations” and “Crossover” from “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.”
The September 19-20 block will highlight cast favorites tied to Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, James Doohan, Nichelle Nichols, George Takei and Walter Koenig. The September 26-27 block will focus on fan favorites, including “The City on the Edge of Forever,” “Balance of Terror,” “Amok Time,” “Space Seed,” “The Doomsday Machine,” “Arena” and “The Enterprise Incident.”
The original “Star Trek” regularly airs Saturday nights at 11 p.m. Eastern and Pacific on MeTV. H&I also carries a nightly “Star Trek” block featuring the original series, “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “Star Trek: Voyager” and “Star Trek: Enterprise.”
Weigel’s multicast networks are carried across the country by streaming platforms Philo and Frndly TV, with some networks also available on DIRECTV, Dish Network, Sling TV and Fubo.
