The Walt Disney Company’s ABC-owned television station in Philadelphia has a new chief meteorologist.
Adam Joseph was named to the role at WPVI (Channel 6) this week, succeeding Cecily Tynan, who retired in August.
Joseph has worked at WPVI for more than two decades, most recently serving as Senior Meteorologist for the station’s weekday “Action News” broadcasts at 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. The promotion places Joseph in the station’s top weather forecasting position following Tynan’s departure earlier this year.
“Adam is a beloved figure in the region’s broadcasting community and a viewer favorite,” John W. Morris, the General Manager of WPVI, said in a statement on Tuesday. “His enthusiasm and dedication to forecasting, authenticity and ability to clearly explain complex weather systems have made him a trusted voice across the region and a clear choice to step into this role.”
Joseph joined WPVI in 2005 as a weekend meteorologist before transitioning to weekday and primetime weather coverage. Over the years, he has become a familiar presence on the station’s local newscasts and special programming.
His work at WPVI has extended beyond daily weather forecasts to include appearances during the station’s annual “6abc Dunkin’ Thanksgiving Day Parade” and special coverage associated with the Philadelphia Flower Show and Philadelphia Auto Show. Joseph has also made guest appearances on ABC News’ national morning program “Good Morning America.”
His broadcasting career began outside the Philadelphia television market, including a position as Chief Meteorologist at NBC affiliate WBOY (Channel 12) in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He later worked at NBC affiliate WSAZ (Channel 3) in the Charleston-Huntington television market before joining WPVI.
Joseph earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Lyndon State College in Vermont and holds the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval for Television.
