The classic puzzle video game “Tetris” is making its North American debut as an in-vehicle entertainment offering through a partnership involving Volkswagen of America, gaming platform AirConsole and The Tetris Company.
The companies are demonstrating the new gaming experience this week at New York Comic Con, where visitors can play “Tetris” inside the 2027 Volkswagen Atlas using the vehicle’s infotainment display and their smartphones as controllers. The demonstration is taking place from October 8 to October 11 at the Javits Center in New York, where organizers expect more than 250,000 visitors.
AirConsole, developed by N-Dream, allows drivers and passengers to access video games through compatible vehicle infotainment systems while parked. Smartphones function as controllers, eliminating the need for dedicated gaming hardware.
The Volkswagen version of Tetris supports up to four players and includes several game modes, including Sprint, Marathon, Battle and Online Battle.

Sprint challenges players to clear 40 lines as quickly as possible, while Marathon offers traditional score-based gameplay. Battle allows players to compete against one another, while Online Battle connects players with other users or private multiplayer sessions.
The integration extends beyond the infotainment display. The 2027 Atlas features ambient lighting that responds to gameplay, changing colors as players clear lines.
“Bringing AirConsole and Tetris to the new Volkswagen Atlas at the New York Comic Con is a perfect match,” N-Dream CEO Anthony Cliquot said on Thursday.
The launch is part of AirConsole’s broader expansion into Volkswagen vehicles in the United States. The platform is being introduced on select 2027 models, including the Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, Tiguan, Golf GTI, Golf R and ID. Buzz.
Volkswagen says it is the first volume automotive brand in the United States to offer AirConsole, extending the gaming platform’s reach into the American automotive entertainment market.
“Bringing Tetris into Volkswagen vehicles with AirConsole turns the Atlas into a multiplayer arcade for fans to enjoy,” Maya Rogers, the CEO of The Tetris Company, said in a statement.
AirConsole is offered through Volkswagen’s In-Vehicle Premium connected services package, which requires an active MyVW Plus (stylized as myVP+) subscription.
Buyers of select new 2027 Volkswagen vehicles receive three months of In-Vehicle Premium service. Continued access requires an eligible connected services plan.
To play, users must park their vehicle, open the AirConsole application through the infotainment system and scan an on-screen QR code with their smartphone to connect it as a controller. Some Volkswagen models require the parking brake to be engaged before the gaming application can launch, the companies said.
The integration of Tetris and other games comes as vehicle makers look for different ways to engage drivers — when they’re not driving — through different means of entertainment.
Many automakers now partner with streaming audio solutions, like Stingray’s TuneIn and music and podcast service LiveOne, to integrate their offerings into native experiences through in-car infotainment systems.
Branching out, European car makers have connected with services like Paramount Plus and TiVo to bring streaming video services, including live sports, into some models there.
