A former journalist who filed crime stories for an independent news website has found herself on the other end of the story.
Maria Antoinnette Borbon, 54, was arraigned earlier this month on charges of grand theft and possessing forgery instruments, the California Globe reports.
Borbon wrote about criminal proceedings in Yolo County courts for the Davis Vanguard online news outlet. In 2015, she published a book based on the numerous crime and courts articles she wrote for the blog.
Her experience with the court system appears to come first-hand: Records reviewed by The Desk on the Yolo County Court website showed numerous criminal and civil cases involving Borbon.
Borbon’s most-recent felony charges were brought in November of last year. Her next court date is Thursday, January 30.
